Why am I doing this blog thingy anyway? Well, other than the fact I have a deep passion for food, I’m also newly engaged (to an amazing guy) and I don’t know the first thing about planning a wedding. I’m a Chinese and Vietnamese American gal marrying a guy who calls himself a “Euro mut”, and to sort of blend our cultures, we decided to have a rustic themed wedding with a bit of Asian influence, sort of an “East meets West” feel. I figured this blog would be a good tool to record every step/detail of the wedding planning process, collect feedback or advice, AND inspire other brides/grooms (or wedding enthusiasts) in planning an Asian fusion wedding of their own!
Here are a few challenges I face:
-Our estimated guest count is 150-210 people
-The traditional Chinese wedding dinner consists of 8-12 dishes (yes, you read that right), with every dish associated with a significant meaning or symbolism.
-I’m creating all the recipes myself, simplifying and adapting them from the traditional Chinese wedding dishes. (I hope to find inexpensive help willing to follow my recipes, cook, prep, and serve the food for this low budget bride. Perhaps I’ll find an aspiring caterer on Craigslist?).
-Oh and here’s the kicker! Our budget is between 6,000 and 9,000. Considering the average American wedding cost between $15,000 and $20,000, my fiance and I are going to penny pinch the entire way.
Wish me luck! I’m going to need it!
